FURY MEN STORM INTO PLAY-OFF FINAL !

March 18, 2017

SONY CENTRE FURY 68 GLASGOW STORM 58
Scottish National Play-Offs Senior Men Semi-Final

A tense Play-Off semi-final saw Fury Men not only advance to the Final, where they will play Boroughmuir Blaze Basketball Club, Edinburgh , but give them the chance to record a remarkable treble winning season – Championship-Scottish Cup and Play-Off titles for the second time in 3 seasons. It was only two seasons ago that Fury Men achieved the treble and to have the opportunity to repeat that in such a short timeframe is a testimony to the consistent high standard the team has set.
The Storm (Glasgow Storm Basketball Club) game was a fitting finale to the club’s 25 seasons at the Mariner SC venue and to come away with such a vital win was a fitting end to such a successful time there by all of Fury’s teams.
The Sony sponsored side led 17-6 in a strong opening quarter that saw Captain Keith Bunyan, who was in Fury’s first ever team – a Junior Men’s side in 1992, hit his trademark three pointer twice at the close of the period.
The second saw Fury’s lead reeled in on the back of an 11point personal burst by Steven Murdoch with the Glasgow side actually taking the lead briefly at 33-32, before Fury’s Greek forward Greg Foussas got a closing quarter basket to give Fury a slender one point lead at the half.
Fury dominated the third with a 20-7 scoreline and some excellent defence. Ross Gibson headed Fury’s scorers in that spell with 6 personal. The final stanza started with Keith Bunyan grabbing his 5th three of the night and then 7 straight from Austrian Adam Hammerschmidt helped the Falkirk side secure what was eventually a 10pt win.
Hammerschmidt led Fury with 21, Bunyan had 15 with Foussas on 12 and Gibson on 10.
Fury Headcoach John Bunyan commented to Heraldsport
‘ It was a great night, not just in respect of the result and having the chance now to win the treble but the crowd were fantastic in what was our last competitive match at the Mariner. It truly has been a great venue with our Friday night games being sell outs and so many families attending and enjoying what is great entertainment. To have a crowd that has been verging on 300 at our games and literally 100 or so kids come on at the half and at the end is as good as the games themselves. Our team have worked very hard all season and to achieve this treble opportunity in 2 seasons after make several changes within the team has been an amazing achievement. ‘

FURY ‘S PLAY-OFF FINAL V BLAZE IS AT THE ORIUM SC
