FURY SHINE IN NOVEMBER RDL COMPETITION

November 16, 2017

Sony Centre Fury BC had 6 teams take part in this months round of Regional Development matches. The two U14 Boys teams were in Fife with the two U14 Girls teams playing in Stirling. The U12 Boys and Girls teams were also in action at Livingston. Fury’s U14 Boys first team, who are through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup were in action in two games and here are some comments on the games –

U14 Boys FURY 1 65 Dunfermline Reign 2 10

“The boys got off to a fast start racking up 16 points before their opponents got on the score sheet. Ben Adams was in fine form racking up 19 points and countless rebounds before Leo Serafini chipped in with 12 points. Lachlan Brown had a game high 4 blocks & 6 points while Jack Shand knocked down what would have been the buzzer beater of the year to date had it counted from just inside the Reign half of the court. The buzzer just went off before he got the ball away but the spectacular shot caught the attention of everyone in the hall. The whole squad enjoyed good minutes on court and played with plenty of energy, most players scored while restricting Reign to a miserly 10 points showed how much they have improved defensively as a team.”

U14 Boys FURY 1 37 Dunfermline Reign 1 15

“This proved to be a much tougher match up; Reign's number 15 providing a physical challenge the boys haven't previously been presented with this season. Despite a slow start, Fury ended the first quarter with a slender 9-7 advantage. From there on in though, they shut their opponents down very quickly conceding only 8 more points in the remaining three quarters. Ben Adams again top scored for Fury with Andrew Melville adding 8 points of his own despite being on the receiving end of a number of fouls that left him on the floor. There were positive contributions from the whole squad who produced a composed and disciplined performance in the face some strong defence and heavy challenges at both ends of the floor from their opponents.”

Also at Dunfermline, Fury U14 Boys team 2 faced
Boroughmuir Blaze 2 and Dunfermline Reign 2. The team performed well , winning both games, with Harvey Berry, Jack Adams, David Black and Robbie Gilmour producing key performances.

In Stirling, Fury had 15 of their squad of 21 U 14 Girls taking part in matches against Polonia, Stirling Knights and Perth. Fury 1 who play Lady Rocks in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup had two close matches against the Knights and Perth losing by 2 and 7 respectively.
For Fury 1, Emily Dagger led the Falkirk side with 18pts over the 2 games with Sophie Cramb on 15, Darcy Dewar on 14, Danni McNammarra on 13 and Nicole McMeechan on 12. Completing team 1 were Jenna Kiddie, Rowan Brockie and Olivia Mitchell. Coach Emma Johnston praised the effort and work rate of all the players.
In team 2, Fury lost both their games but once again continued to improve. Suzannah McAuley led Fury 2 with 22 pts in the games with Caitlin Gow on 10. Abby Reid had 8 with Lauren Brown and Chelsy Hughes sharing 14. Elonar Thom and Eva Balloch completed team 2.

Fury U12 Boys played West Lothian Wolves teams.
A narrow loss to Wolves 1 was then squared off with a win over Wolves 2. In a 3rd game between the clubs – Fury defeated a combined Wolves team by 10pts.
Mathew Duffy was a standout for the Fury side with all players developing and contributing on the day.

Fury U12 Girls had two matches and opened with a narrow win over West Lothian Wolves 34-31. A 29-21 defeat from Stirling Knights saw Fury end up 1-1 on the day. Top scorer for the Falkirk club was Rose Tyrrell who continues to show outstanding promise. Fury’s team on the day all contributed to what was a solid 2 games for the girls.
