KFC IN STUNNING 54 PT TURNAROUND!!

February 13, 2018

KNIGHTS –FURY CENTRAL 54    GLASGOW LADY ROCKS 50

Scottish Junior Woman’s Championship Division 1

54 was the magic number as the merged Fury-Knights U18 Womans side rocked the Lady Rocks with a 54-50 pts win and in so doing, turned around their first match of the season which was a 50pt Rocks win by – yes  - 54!
Since these early days, just over 4 months ago – KFC have steadily improved as the merged team of players have trained and played together.
Their last game saw them defeat top 3 side Boroughmuir Blaze and today get the win against second placed Lady Rocks. The match started well for the Central side as they jumped out to an early lead, extending it to 13 -6 at the end of the opening quarter. KFC took the second 19-18 to lead 32-24 at the half. The third saw the home side bounce back and lead 44-36 as the teams entered the final period. But while the Central team had dried up on offence in the third, it was now the Rocks who struggled to find the basket as the merged Central side stormed back and went on a 12-2 run that put them ahead 48-46. In a tight finish down the stretch, it was KFC who held their nerve, particularly from the free throw line and it was a series of free throws that gave the Central side the win. Mairi McGill took KFC to 49pts with Katie McEwan then hitting 3 from the charity stripe and Katrina Kirsop with the final 2.
All todays 9 players, can play next season and it was  Nina Wills who led KFC with 15pts , that included three consecutive 3’s in the second quarter. Katrina Kirsop had 13, Katie McEwan 11, Mairi McGill 9 and Rosie Wallace 6.
Full KFC team – Wills, Kirsop, McEwan, McGill, Wallace-Rachael Penman who did a great job in the guard spot in both offence and defence, Molly Waddell, Abby Rutter and Eabha Kerr.
Great effort from the players and the coaches – Kim and Alex for their work with the players in the past few months at training and for getting 2 big wins in their last two games.
Great support from parents and friends and as the Play-Offs loom – KFC – who have finally hatched, are a real Play-Off title contender !
