22pts from USA star Makaleb McInnis and a solid team performance game Fury the win in an exciting clash at Grangemouth SC last night. Fury followed up a 92-51 win over Edinburgh Lions last week (full report below) with an equally impressive victory over capital side Blaze. Fury’s Lithuanian guard Eddy Leginas hit 16,Bulgarian Ivan Ganchev 14 and Lithuanian Ziggy Dauksas and St.Kitts Bantu Burroughs shared 16. Fury and Blaze had ‘tied’ in a pre-season game and it was clear there was not a lot between the sides who both posses a strong back-court, 3pt shooting ability and a solid inside presence. Tied 18 apiece at the end of the first period, the packed crowd at Grangemouth SC were treated to some great basketball from both teams as Fury just edged ahead at the half with a 20-18 second period after falling behind. Leginas opened with 6 personal in the first, Ganchev adding a pair of baskets and Burroughs and Captain Keith Bunyan connecting from long range. The second saw Fury work hard as they got to the line and capitalised from the charity stripe to take the half time lead. Dauksas and fellow Lithuanian Evaldis Burksaitis being prominent in this spell. But it was the third that was the key period as the home side were cheered on by their fans to take a decisive 14pt lead into the last quarter. 7 personal from Ivan Ganchev, who was putting on a show at both ends of the floor was big for Fury. Fury played out the 4th adding to their lead and finishing with a 17pt win with McInnis and Ganchev key figures down the stretch. Fury Headcoach John Bunyan commented to Heraldsport after the game – ‘ At the half we talked about improving our defence and holding Blaze to 11 in the second was big. Our 3 guards – Eddie, Bantu and Makaleb worked really hard all night and they were a major factor in the win with Ziggy, Evaldis and Ivan working really hard on the boards and were also key on offence, particularly Ivan who showed why he has the potential to be a major player for us this season.’
