FURY WOMAN PUT UP SOLID DISPLAY V EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY
November 19, 2019
SONY CENTRE FURY 42 EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY 58 Scottish Senior Woman Soho Wealth Division 1 Championship
Despite facing a strong Edinburgh Uni side Fury Senior Woman played some great basketball and for 3 of the quarters there was 1pt between the sides. A 58-42 loss, ends Fury's winning streak of 4 wins in a row but the team can take a lot from today’s game. Down 19-17 at the end of the first Fury had bounced back after going behind early on. 9 personal from Ailie Gardner off the bench was just one of the many highlights in a strong quarter for Fury. The second saw the Falkirk side's poor execution on offence take them to 17 down at the half. But Fury were not about to be blown away by a team that included several Caledonia Pride players and proceeded to hold them to 6pts in the third period. Fury's poor execution continued but reduced the gap in the game to 15 going into the final stanza. That was also a low scoring period with the University side taking it 13-12, with the upside for Fury - great defence and the fact they took the second half. Fury started with Juniors Abby Rutter and Katie McEwan, with Pelly Kidd another Junior also getting good court time, with all three playing well at both ends of the floor. This was a good team performance for Fury, given the line up, the capital side had on the floor for most of the game. Shannon Flippard had her best game of the season with Alicia McFadden and Kirstie Young also playing big minutes and making a solid contribution. Lauren Benett, Kim Flockart and Rebecca Lonsdale completed Fury's side also make a great contribution in the game. Fury Headcoach John Bunyan commented to Heraldsport after the game - ' While we defeated Edinburgh in the Scottish Cup this was a much changed side that included several key Pride players - that did not phase our team, who worked extremely hard, particularly on our defensive game plan. We have had at times trouble putting points on the board this season but I cannot fault the effort and work on defence. We have come off the back of a really successful run and the loss does not take away from that or the many positives today.'
